Description

Sphere Angels and Devils Tessellation Round Orb Paperweight by Escher 4.5H From Escher's series of tessellations , this artwork illustrates angels and devils , identified by their color, intertwined in a unique configuration. The angel wings interlock with the devils' black bat shapes. Taken from a round tessellation drawing, it has been adapted into a round sculptural ball. The ball makes a handsome desktop paperweight adornment. Paperweight Orb comes with a black stand as pictured and color description card. Made from resin with hand-painted colorings. Part of the highly collectible Parastone Museum Collection. PN ESC05. Measures: 4.5 in. x 3.5 in. x 3.5 in. Weight 1.5 lbs. M.C. Escher (1898-1972) Escher was a 20th century Dutch graphic artist recognized for his unique interpretation of repeating patterns (tessellations), impossible architecture, and skills in woodcutting and lithography. Although lacking formal training in math or science, he was greatly appreciated by mathematicians, scientists, and crystallographers for his intuitive capacity for transforming geometric shape into a workable and adapting scheme. He became fascinated by the regular Division of the Plane when he visited Alhambra, a 14th-century Moorish castle in Granada, Spain in 1922. Later he would extend his passion from paper to carved beech wood spheres. eMuseumStore is a leading retailer of Museum Store Gifts | Historical Reproductions | Cultural Artifact Replicas About our listing, service expectations, and business philosophy: Item is NEW .
